Rnd 1: With orange, ch 4, join into a ring. Chain 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 2, 3 dc in ring, ch2, 3
dc in ring, ch2, 3 dc in ring, ch 2, join (you should have a square with four 3-dc groups like the first round of a basic granny
square). Cut orange.
Rnd 2: Join white into center dc of one of the 3-dc groups,
ch 1, sc to corner, work 3 sc in corner, sc across to next corner, work 3 sc in corner, repeat around and join to first sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, 1 hdc in ea sc to corner, in corner work 2 hdc,
ch 2, 2 hdc. Work hdc across to next corner, work 2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc in corner, hdc to next corner, repeat around. Join with sl st to
first hdc.
Rnd 4: Ch 2, 1 hdc in ea hdc to corner, in corner work 2 hdc,
ch 2, 2 hdc, hdc in each hdc to next corner, work corner, repeat around. Join to first hdc with sl st. Cut white.
Rnd 5: Join navy blue, ch 1, sc in ea hdc across to corner,
in corner work 3 sc, sc across to next corner, work 3 sc in corner, repeat round. Join to first sc with sl st.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in each sc to corner, work 3 sc in corner,
sc around working 3 sc in each corner, join with sl st. Cut navy.
Rnd 7: Join white, ch 2, hdc in ea sc around, working 2 hdc,
ch 2, 2 hdc in ea corner. Join with sl st to first hdc.
Rnd 8: Ch 2, hdc in ea hdc around, working 2 hdc, ch 2, 2
hdc in each corner. Join with sl st. Drop white but do not cut it.
Rnd 9: Attach orange, ch 1, work sc in ea hdc around,
working 3 sc in ea corner. Join by dropping orange as you sl st and pull white through from previous round. Cut orange.
Rnd 10: WORKING IN BLO on this round, with white, sc around
working 3 sc in each corner. Join.
Rnds 11 & 12: Working in both loops again, ch 2, hdc around
working 2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc in ea corner. Join. Cut white.
Rnds 13-16: Attach navy and sc in ea hdc around, working 3
sc in ea corner. Join. Cut navy.
Rnd 17: Join orange. Work one long sc in st 2 rows below
(keeping tension loose so it doesn't bunch up), work 3 sc, work 1 long sc, work 3 sc, 1 long sc across to corner, working 1 or 2 sc
before and after corner and 3 sc in corner so long sc are spaced fairly evenly (try to end up with 10 long sc on each side with plain sc
in each corner --- you can fudge a bit to get the long sc spaced evenly). Join.
Rnd 18: Work 1 row of sc in each sc and long sc around. Join
and finish off. Rnd 18: Work 1 row of sc in each sc and long sc around. Join and finish off.
Block square, as needed.
