ball ea. of 3 different colors worsted wt. yarn (approx. 75
yds. each) (shown
in standard worsted wt.)
For both cozies:
Size H hook (or hook
size needed for gauge)
1-1/8" plastic ring
Yarn needle for
weaving in ends
Gauge:
In pattern st, 4 clusters & 4 V-stitches = 4.5"
Abbreviations: beg
= beginning, ch = chain, dc
= double crochet, dec = decrease, lp = loop, rep = repeat,
rnd = round, sl
st = slip stitch, st = stitch
Special Stitches
& Terms:
Cluster (CL):
pull up loop to measure approx. 1/2", yo, insert hook in st
and pull loop through, pulling up to 1/2" height, yo, insert
hook in same st and pull up loop to 1/2" (5 loops on hook),
pull through all 5 lps, ch 1 to secure.
Front Post
Cluster (FPC): With
RIGHT side of work facing, work cluster around cluster by
inserting hook from right to left behind cluster of previous
round.
Back Post Cluster
(BPC): With
WRONG side of work facing, work cluster around cluster by
inserting hook from right to left behind cluster of previous
round, so new cluster shows on right side.
V-stitch (V):
Dc, ch 1, dc
COZY
Ch 80, join into
ring, being careful not to twist beg ch.
Rnd 1:
Work cluster (CL) in first ch, *skip 1 ch, work V-stitch (V)
in next ch, skip 1 ch, CL in next ch, rep from * around,
join with sl st to top of beg CL.
Rnd 2:
Work FPC, V in V, *FPC, V in V, rep from * around, join
with sl st to top of beg FPC.
Rnds 3-4:
Rep Rnd 2.
Side openings: You
will now work in rows across half of cozy only:
Row 5 (right
side): *FPC,
V in next V, rep 9 more times (10 FPC, 10 V), turn.
Row 6 (wrong
side): Sl
st in first V, ch 5, dc in same V, *BPC, V in next V, rep
from * across, turn.
Row 7 (right
side): Rep
Row 5.
Row 8 (wrong
side): Rep
Row 6, and fasten off.
Rejoin yarn in first
FPC on opposite side of cozy and Rep Rows 5-8. At end of
Row 8, do not fasten off, but continue to work in rounds
again.
Rnd 9: FPC
in first FPC of previous row, V in next V, *FPC, V in next
V, rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg FPC (20
FPC, 20 V).
Rnd 10: Rep
Rnd 9 (20 FPC, 20 V).
Rnd 11 (dec rnd): *FPC,
1 dc in center ch-1 space of next V-st, rep from * around,
join with sl st in top of beg FPC (20 FPC, 20 dc).
Rnd 12: FPC
in ea FPC around, join with sl st (20 FPC).
Rnd 13 (dec rnd): Ch
1, sc in ea FPC around, join with sl st (20 sc).
Rnd 14 (dec rnd): Ch
1, sc2tog around, join with sl st (10 sc).
Rnd 15 (dec rnd): Ch
1, sc2tog around, join with sl st. Fasten off, close center
opening and weave in ends.
Edging:
Turn cozy upside
down. With right side facing, attach yarn to any sc on
opposite side of beg ch, ch 3, dc in same ch, skip 1 ch, sc
in next ch, *ch 3, dc in same ch, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch,
rep from * around, join with sl st.
Fasten off and weave
in ends.
Ring loop:
Single crochet
evenly around a 1-1/8" plastic ring until ring is solidly
covered, join with sl st, fasten off. Sew ring to center
top of cozy.
FOR 3-COLOR COZY:
Work Rounds 1-4 in first color, work Rows 5-8 in second
color, work Rounds 9-15 in 3rd color.
TABLE MAT -
Place this small mat under your cozy-dressed teapot to
protect your tabletop!
With leftover yarn
from tea cozy and size H hook, ch 4, join into ring (or use
disappearing loop method to start).
Rnd 1: Ch
3, work 11 dc in ring, sl st join to top of beg ch (12 dc).
Rnd 2: Ch
3, work 1 dc in same dc, 2 dc in ea dc around, sl st join to
top of beg ch (24 dc).
Rnd 3: Ch
3, work 1 dc in same dc, 1 dc in next dc, *2 dc in next dc,
1 dc in next dc, rep from * around, join with sl st (36 dc).
Rnd 4: Ch
3, work 1 dc in same dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, *2 dc in
next dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, rep from * around, join
with sl st(48 dc).
Rnd 5: Ch
3, work 1 dc in same dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, *2 dc in
next dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, rep from * around, join
with sl st (60 dc).
Edging: Ch
3, dc in same dc, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, *ch 3, dc
in same dc, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, rep from *
around, join with sl st, fasten off and weave in ends.
Now, make a pot of
tea, place cozy over it leaving handle and spout sticking
out through openings. Pour yourself a cup and enjoy!
