Finished size:
Approx 4-1/2" x 4-1/2" (closed) - strap approx. 23" long
Materials:
100 yds.
DK or worsted weight yarn
Size H hook (or size needed to achieve gauge)
Size F or G hook for chain strap
Tapestry needle
Button
Gauge: 6 sc = 2" , 7 rows = 2"
Directions:
Ch 15.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and each ch across (14 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first sc and in each sc across (14 sc)
Repeat Row 2 until 28 rows have been worked.
Begin flap:
Row 29: Ch 3, turn. Dc in second sc and in each sc across (14 dc)
Row 30: Ch 3, turn. Dc in each dc across (14 dc)
Rows 31-32: Repeat Row 30.
Row 33: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first dc and each dc across (14 sc).
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
Bag assembly: Fold Row 1 of
bag up to meet Row 29. With tapestry needle and
length of yarn, whipstitch sides of bag together. Weave
in ends.
Chain strap: With smaller hook, attach yarn to one side of bag where
flap folds over front. Ch 100, 150 or 200 (depending on length of
strap desired), attach to other side of bag. Fasten off
and secure ends.
Finishing: Fold flap over front of bag to find placement of
button. Sew on button and fasten through space formed between 2 dc
in center of Row 32.
