Single-strand version: 13-1/2 hdc = 4”, 5 rnds = 2” with worsted wt. yarn on size

H/8 (5.00 mm) hook

Double-strand version: 11 hdc = 4", 2 rnds = 1" with double-strand worsted wt.

Hat - single-strand version

Rnd 1: With size H hook and single strand of yarn, ch 4, join into ring (or wind

loop of yarn around finger and work over strands of loop to form beginning ring),

ch 2, work 7 hdc in ring, join with sl st to top of beg ch-2 (8 hdc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in ea hdc around, join with sl st (16 hdc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, rep

from * around, join with sl st (24 hdc)

Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea of next 2 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in

ea of next 2 hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (32 hdc)

Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea of next 3 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in

ea of next 3 hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (40 hdc)

Rnd 6: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea of next 4 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in

Rnd 12: Ch 2, hdc in ea sc around, join with sl st (64 hdc)

Rnds 13-22: Ch 2, hdc in ea hdc around, join with sl st (64 hdc). Hat should

measure 8" from top (if it doesn't, work more rounds of hdc until you reach 8"

from top).

Rnd 23: Ch 2, hdc in front loop only (FLO) of ea hdc around, join with sl st (64

hdc)

Rnd 24: Ch 2, hdc in both loops of ea hdc around, join with sl st (64 hdc)

Rnds 25-27: Ch 2, hdc in ea hdc around, join with sl st (64 hdc)

Rnd 28: Ch 1, sc in ea hdc around, join with sl st (64 sc). Fasten off. Turn up

brim of hat to expose free loops of Rnd 9.

Rnd 29: With outside of hat facing you, attach yarn in free loop on Rnd 22 at

center back, ch 1, sc in ea free loop around, join with sl st (64 sc)

Rnd 30: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 7 sc, *work 2 hdc in next sc, hdc in

next 7 sc, rep from * around, join with sl st (72 hdc)

Rnd 31: Ch 2, hdc in ea hdc around, join with sl st (72 hdc)

Rnd 32: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea of next 8 hdc, *work 2 hdc in next hdc,

hdc in next 8 hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (80 hdc)

Rnd 33: Ch 1, sc in ea hdc around, join with sl st (80 hdc). Fasten off and weave

in ends.

Roll up brim.

Hat - double-strand version

Rnd 1: With size J hook and double-strand yarn, ch 4, join into ring (or wind loop

of yarn around finger and work over strands of loop to form beginning ring), ch 2,

work 7 hdc in ring, join with sl st (8 hdc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in ea st around, join with sl st (16 hdc)
