CHILD'S SCARF & POCKETBOOK

Skill level: Beginner/Easy

Size: Scarf measures approx. 4" x 48"

Pocketbook measures approx. 5" x 4"

Materials:

200 yds. multicolor worsted wt. yarn (sample shown in Plymouth Encore

Colorspun)

Size H hook

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

1 button

Gauge: not critical for this project – approx. 4 dc = 1” on size H hook

Terms/Abbreviations: back loop only (BLO), beginning (beg), chain (ch), double

crochet (dc), half double crochet (hdc), hook (hk), repeat (rep), single crochet

(sc), skip (sk), slip stitch (sl st), stitch (st)

Scarf

Row 1: Ch 14, dc in 4th ch from hk and ea ch across, turn (12 dc)

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in ea dc across, turn (12 dc)

Repeat Row 2 until scarf measures approx. 48”. Fasten off.

Fringe: Wind yarn around a 5" measure several times, cut at one end to form

strands. Insert hook in stitch at end of scarf, wrap 2 strands yarn in half around

hook, pull ends of strands through loop on hook and tighten knot. Place fringe in

each stitch on both ends of scarf. Trim fringe evenly.

Pocketbook

Row 1: Ch 16, sc in 2nd ch from hk and ea ch across, turn (15 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in ea sc across, turn (15 sc)

Repeat Row 2 until 28 rows total have been worked, fasten off.

Assembly: Fold bottom 10 rows up over center 10 rows and sew side seams

(leave top 8 rows for pocketbook flap)

Handle:

Attach yarn at top of one side of pocketbook (just below flap), ch 50, attach to

other side of bag (below flap). Fasten off.

Flap edging:

Attach yarn to one corner of flap (where it meets top of bag), ch 1, single crochet

evenly across side, single crochet to center point of front of flap, ch 8 (for button

loop), slip stitch back into same stitch, continue to sc evenly across front of flap

and along other side. Fasten off and weave in ends. Sew button to front of bag

and insert through button loop.
